On Friday 27th July, gentle monster uk London opened its door to the press and on Saturday 28th, they were ready to welcome everyone in London to the world of Gentle Monster.
About Gentle Monster
The brand started back in 2011 from South Korea. Every since, the brand has grown massively with flagship stores around the world. London is actually the first European store. There is so much hype around the brand because in the world of fashion and beauty, Korean fashion and beauty products has really taken the industry by storm. Now I think, with eyewear, they may be doing the same thing.
Each Gentle Monster store around the world has a theme and for London, it is Kung Fu. There is also a story behind the theme (bare with me here)…
Alien robots landed on earth and liked Kung Fu, so they took some elements of Kung Fu back to their planet and put their own spin on it. On the first floor, you will see different giant robots doing different Kung Fu poses and downstairs, there are two giant robots battling with lots of small robot aliens as cheerleaders and others watching the battle.
It all sounds very strange, I know. It does make you think how is that an eyewear shop? Funnily enough, the eyewear does fit in with the store design very nicely. The idea of a theme is to take customers on a journey and be curious. A fun way to shop for eyewear.
The store certainly has a very welcoming vibe and is very different to any eyewear store you will find in the UK or around the world as a matter of fact. Since it is so different and doesn’t feel like your typical eyewear store, you do naturally want to try the frames on. The frames themselves are pretty awesome, whether you want something ordinary, a bit funky or a statement piece. You will find them all under the Gentle Monster roof. Prices start from £150 – £280 so they are not overly expensive for the quality you are getting.
The store offers both optical and sunglass ranges but they currently don’t offer an inhouse glazing service so if you need to put your prescription into the optical frames, you will need to go elsewhere.
